Its 675cc three-cylinder engine bubbles, growls and wails as you wind it up through the gears and, thanks to an all-new chassis, the handling is now even sharper and more intuitive than it's ever been. And that’s saying something.

The bodywork is new too. Colours appear as sharp slashes down the length of the bike from the slender tail section to the lean-looking tank, narrow radiator side cover and the front mudguard. Neatly finished by the striking new wheel design.

You’ll find yourself using the Street Triple for anything from track days to traffic busting.

2014 Triumph Street Triple ABS - SPECIFICATIONS

ENGINE

As always, the torque curve on the Street Triple is generous from low revs to high. Staying above 43lb.ft from 3,000rpm right up to 12,500rpm so you can pull hard and instantly whatever the rev counter is showing.

And, with a maximum of 106PS and less weight than ever before, there’s more than enough for the odd thrilling track day.

CONFIGURATION

The gearbox in the Street Triple has a taller first gear than before, taking advantage of the engine's depth of torque for smoother urban riding.

And to keep it smooth through the gears we've fitted a gear-driven balance shaft, so your focus on long stints at high speeds isn’t interrupted by vibration.

Four valves per cylinder with double overhead camshafts is the best layout for high revs, so that’s what the Street Triple gets. Although our engineers have designed the cam timing and new exhaust to give you plenty of punch at low and medium revs for more useable power during normal road riding.

EXHAUST

The most obvious update is the new exhaust. Now tucked tight beneath the engine it gives the tail end a lean, more modern look and lowers the centre of gravity for even better handling.

SOUND

The sound is now even better than before with the new intake path through the frame turning up volume, giving the Street Triple an even snarlier, more engaging sound than ever.

CHASSIS

FRAME


The aluminium twin spar frame's styling is familiar but it's a new design. Routing the intake duct right through the headstock for the best efficiency.

With the exhaust moved from beneath the seat our Street Triple team was able to fit a new, lighter cast aluminium design subframe.

SUSPENSION

A chassis this good demands exceptional suspension, so the Street Triple comes with KYB 41mm upside down forks, and a KYB rear shock with spring preload adjustability.

HANDLING

By making the Street Triple 6kg lighter with a 3 per cent increase in weight distribution over the front, now at 52 per cent, and with its mass more centralised, the Street Triple is now more agile and responsive than ever. The overall design gives you the stability and confidence for an incredible riding experience. The new Street Triple has a smaller turning circle than before, so it’s now better for every day manoeuvring through traffic too.

BRAKES

A pair of Nissin brakes are fitted at the front gripping 310mm discs for balanced and easily controlled stopping power, while a Brembo calliper and 220mm disc look after the rear. Switchable ABS is an option.

WHEELS AND TYRES

The new wheels aren’t just there to look good, they're lighter. They come with a whole raft of benefits. Less mass means less inertia, so you get more responsive steering.

They make it easier to accelerate and slow down too. So straight line performance benefits and, with less mass to move up and down over bumps, the suspension is worked less resulting in a better ride quality and improved grip.

RIDING POSITION

On the Street Triple you are still forward leaning with high footrests for the best control closer to its limits, but it's also more upright for better everyday riding around town.

So you can tackle longer trips as well as getting a good workout on a track day.

OPTIONAL ABS

Where ABS is fitted it's possible to disable it via the dash if required, and it automatically activates again each time the ignition is switched on, so there's no forgetting you've turned it off.

INSTRUMENTS AND COMPUTER

The dash is still as comprehensive as it always was with its twin trip computer showing economy, range, gear indicator, lap timer and programmable gear change lights.

There are neat touches like the rear number plate and indicator hanger which can be quickly removed for track riding. Include the catalytic converter, double overhead cams and the latest engine management system with twin butterflies per cylinder and you have a high tech machine with an even more potent ride than ever.

IMMOBILISER

We added a coded key immobilizer system in case your bike attracts the wrong kind of attention. It disables the ignition if an attempt is made to turn or force the ignition switch without the presence of the electronically coded correct key.

UNDER SEAT STORAGE

For added security, the new Street Triple features under seat storage capable of holding a D lock.

TPMS

A change in tyre pressure can dramatically alter handling. So our Tyre Pressure Monitoring System will let you know any change in pressure, on the track or on the road, before it becomes an issue.

QUICK SHIFTER

Race Inspired gear change quick-shifter to allow full and partial throttle up-shifts without the use of the clutch. Full plug and play installation means no modifications to the motorcycle harness are required.

Engine & Performance

The engine is the same muscle-packed 1050cc triple that powers the Speed Triple. And it delivers a huge punch. But every real rider knows, the key to its real world performance is the broad spread of torque and instant throttle response.

Chassis

SUSPENSION

Choosing the suspension wasn't just a case of looking for the best and bolting it on.

Extensive testing by our own and Öhlins highly experienced development riders on road and track means the internals were developed specifically for Triumph and the Speed Triple R.

In the NIX30 forks and TTX36 shock, the rebound and compression damping functions are completely separated to give you more precise damping control and both offer a huge range of settings to suit your ride.

FRAME

The frame is the same doubled-tube, twin spar design recognizable from the 1997 model. Although the current version was updated in 2011, so it now uses the engine as a crucial frame component, making the chassis stiffer and lighter for a more focussed ride.

BRAKES

We’ve added Brembo Monobloc calipers to the R for 5 per cent more stopping power than the standard Speed Triple's Brembos. And their single-piece construction helps reduce distortion at extreme pressures for more accurate feedback.

The optional electronic ABS makes 100 calculations per second to prevent wheel lock up at either end.

WHEELS AND TYRES

We fitted lightweight cast aluminium wheels and a wide 6 inch rim on the back to take the grippiest, sports-focused rubber the Speed Triple R deserves

SWINGARM

The swingarm is aluminium and features an eccentric chain adjuster so that the rear wheel stays perfectly in line with the front for a focussed, precise handling.

RIDING POSITION

The Speed Triple R is pure sports bike with a real world edge. So we designed the riding position for accurate control and aggressive performance in everyday riding situations. We set the bars low, the footrests in a rear set position and the seat is deeply shaped to keep you in position during hard use but still allows you to slide off the sides of the bike.

It's a forward biased stance essential for keeping weight over the front of the bike, so you can feel exactly what the forks and tyre are doing and explore cornering limits, shifting weight to keep the front end in contact with the ground.

All from a road-going motorcycle that you can use in heavy traffic, slow speed town riding and occasional long distance trips.

BODYWORK

Stripped back bodywork, it looks muscular, hunched forward, mean and aggressive because that’s exactly what the Speed Triple is.

FRAME

A thoroughly modern twin-tube, twin spar frame wrapped tight around a bulging powerhouse of an engine. The Speed Triple’s unmistakable structure is pure unadulterated Triumph.

EXHAUST

The twin silencers beneath the short, stubby tail section of the Speed Triple leave the rear wheel fully exposed on the right by the cool, single-sided swingarm. Not for looks, for real world sports bike riding. It just happens to look great.

ENGINE & PERFORMANCE

The power of the Speed Triple comes from a muscle-packed three-cylinder, 1050cc engine. Serious top end performance comes from a huge 135PS, backed up by 111Nm of peak torque with plenty more muscle lower down the rev range. Giving you instant thrust regardless of revs or gear. And, with our high tech fuel injection all the power comes smoothly and relentlessly, right when you ask for it.

CONFIGURATION

The liquid-cooling, double overhead cams of the Speed Triple operate 12 valves and rev out beyond 10,000rpm.

And, we’ve finely tuned the three-into-two exhaust like a musical instrument to enhance the engine's torque and make it snarl even more angrily as the revs build.

CHASSIS

FRAME

The Speed Triple introduced an all-new frame in 2011 to give you more forward weight distribution for sharper handling and exceptional front end feel.

And we’ve kept the geometry sharp, with a steep 22.8 degree steering angle, short 1435mm wheelbase and just 90.9mm of trail to give you breathtaking responsiveness and agility.

SUSPENSION

The upside down forks on the Speed Triple are high quality Showa units, 43mm in diameter with adjustable rebound and compression damping, while the centrally mounted, single rear shock also has adjustable spring preload. So you can set the Speed Triple up for a gentle outing or an on-the-edge track day and it'll perform brilliantly.

BRAKES

To match the Speed Triple’s level of handling and power we fitted Brembo's radial four-piston calipers, with the option of ABS, for outstanding stopping power and feel.

WHEELS AND TYRES

We fitted lightweight cast aluminium wheels and a wide 6inch rim on the back to take the grippiest, sports-focused rubber the Speed Triple deserves.

SINGLE-SIDED SWINGARM

The geometry is sharper than the Street Triple's with a 0.7 degree steeper rake angle at 23.4 degrees and 4.6mm less trail at 95mm, designed to give the R even more responsive handling.

SUSPENSION

A chassis as good as the Street Triple R’s needs suspension to match, so it comes with KYB 41mm upside down forks with adjustable preload, rebound and compression damping, and a rear mono-shock with piggy back reservoir adjustable for rebound and compression damping.

HANDLING

By making Street Triple R 6kg lighter with a 3 per cent increase in weight distribution over the front, now at 52 per cent, and with its mass more centralized, the Street Triple R is now more agile and responsive than ever. The overall design gives you the stability and confidence for an incredible riding experience.

BRAKES

We’ve uprated the brakes on the R with a pair of radially-mounted, four-piston Nissan calipers up front to give you exceptional braking force with almost telepathic feedback.

WHEELS AND TYRES

The latest Street Triple R gets lighter wheels for a lot of reasons.

Reduced gyroscopic forces make the steering faster and more tactile, you get better response on poor surfaces, it gives the suspension an easier time, which improves grip, and with less weight to accelerate and slow down the overall performance of the bike is improved too.

R versions feature a red pinstripe detail.

RIDING POSITION

With the Street Triple R you get a different set up to the standard model for more focused super sport performance.

While the bars, seat and footrests are in the same relative positions, the seat is 20mm higher at 820mm so you sit slightly further forward over the front end.

Even though it’s a more road-friendly set-up than a full-on super sport bike, we’ve made it upright enough for natural and easy town riding but with a sufficiently aggressive stance for pushing the chassis to its limits.

Just in case your bike attracts the wrong kind of attention, we’ve added a high technology security system. It detects a microchip in the key body and if it's not present the ignition system is disabled.

This prevents a copy of the correct key being used to switch the bike on.
